to read at 11 – What now? asks mum
I need your help. My son is 11 years old. He is severely dyslexic. I pulled him out of 2nd grade because he had become suicidal at the thought of not being able to read. Over the years he has had constant instruction from me, I am a teacher and from my mother too, she is also a teacher. He still can’t read. He now wants to go back to school in the fall and I don’t know what to do. How do I send him to junior high when he still can’t read? What should I do? Help!
Hi there,
Two things straight away to get him ready quickly. Watch this webinar www.dyslexiadaily.com/webinar and get him reading using this method straight away. This is what the method is – www.thetenminutetutor.com. Go to this website and see what other parents and children are saying about it. There are videos down the right-hand side of this page that you can watch, plus a sample video of the program as well. The webinar explains how this program works and also offers a 50% discount on the website price.
Tell him from me that he can do it – he just has to be motivated and have a go.
Kindest regards
Liz Dunoon
To the dear mother of the 11 year old:
I had the same experience with my child. I pulled him out after 3rd grade and put him
in a school that serves only dyslexics. He is about to enter junior high. My heart aches for you. In addition to Ms. Doonan’s program, I have some technology suggestions for him if you would like to connect. Sincerely, Heather
Sincerely, Heather
To the mother, I’m sorry to hear that about your son. I was also diagnosed with Dyslexia in 2nd grade and had to change schools so I could get better support to help me. I know first-hand what your son is going through. I hated school and contemplated suicide for many years. In my early 20’s was the hardest for me. Feeling stupid and confused wondering why was I born and lost.
I now have my own website and I’m blogging and sharing what I have learned over the years. I’m working on publishing a book now sharing my story. It’s for kids just like your son that struggled and has their own issues. I still do to this day and I always will. I hated reading in school and I was very slow. The last three years I have read over 40 books now. He will figure it out, unfortunately, it just takes time and it defiantly won’t be easy. Hopefully, that helps you and your son. My website is Peterharrower.com if your curious to find out more.
